What is the coffee grounds container responsible for in a coffee machine?
The coffee grounds container is as important as the other parts of a coffee machine. It directly collects and stores all used coffee, which enters it as compressed pucks, keeping the inside of the machine tidy. It is designed to hold only a specific amount of waste produced by the machine. Regular emptying is therefore essential. What to do when water appears in the coffee grounds container?
Leaks or minor faults can seriously disrupt the operation of the coffee machine. If you notice water starting to collect in the used grounds container, that is a signal to deal with the problem as soon as possible. There are several common causes:
- damaged seals - old seals, or seals that have not been replaced for a long time, can eventually crack, so if you find a damaged seal, replace it with a new one,
- damaged valve supplying water to the brew unit - it may need to be replaced, or the problem may be a worn seal that no longer does its job,
- a problem with the brew unit - this most likely means the brew unit has lost its seal, so water slowly leaks into the grounds container. In that case, remove the brew unit from the machine, clean it thoroughly, including the seals, then check the condition of the piston and apply grease to all parts.
